Casale Marchese

Alcohol Content: 13,5%
Appearance: Clean, clear.

Winemaker's Notes:
Gentle pressing, careful selection & blending of the musts; Pressure-less filtration; Addition of selected yeasts; Thermocontrolled alcoholic fermentation; Cold tartaric stabilization in December; Bottling of small bottles (50 Hl) from January until June, then into bottles of different sizes.
Food Pairings:
Goes well with savory dishes, white meats and fresh sheep or goat cheeses.

When in Rome...

...I drink what the Romans do. To accompany the perfectly executed Cucina Romana at Rome's venerable restaurant Sora Lella, I chose nothing less than an excellent bottle of Frascati Superiore 2005 from Casale Marchese. It has since become one of my favorite wines from the Castelli Romani, the wine producing hills overlooking the eternal city.

It must be said that it is not the Frascati which in the past has often been more commonly known in an almost table wine quality. No, this is far "Superior" as the name describes and a paradigm of the new wave of Italian wines that is rewriting the history of traditional local varieties.

It is evident at first glance...when I pick up my glass I can't help but admire the clean straw yellow color glistening in the sparkling crystal. An immediate fresh fragrance of tropical fruit with floral and herbal nuances delights my nose, inviting me to take the first taste. Melon, almond, acacia flowers, apples and citrus with a hint of aromatic mint come to mind. Full bodied with a good structure and an intense taste that confirms the nose, it lingers in a soft and elegant finish, fruity yet aromatic and minty clean.

Definitely the cream of the Frascati crop, this joyful wine not only reflects the true image of all things Roman but defines it and is sure to be the ideal companion for a convivial lunch or dinner in Rome.

Salute!
